Let It Snow!

Here on the east coast, we are bracing for a significant snow event today and tomorrow. Certain areas in the southeast and mid-Atlantic have already been impacted by this coastal storm. By midday tomorrow, a large portion of the population on the east coast will be in the midst of digging out and dealing with this storm and its after effects.
As I write this, I am certain the local supermarkets' supplies of milk, bread and soup are nearly exhausted. Nothing like a little snow storm to send people scrambling to the store to stock up for the impending end of travel. I don't follow that little ritual and I don't generally shop on Black Friday other. But I do find big storms very sexy. Of course, when lived briefly in the Midwest and we were exposed to when seemingly appeared to be daily blizzards, I lost my love for the white stuff. And when left the Land of Lincoln for the sunny shores of Peach State, we also left our snow blower behind. I am feeling remorse for the decision, and even today, several years later, I have no replaced my dependable snow blower, feeling as if I had lost a loyal pet that I could not replace. I may rethink this position and I nearly did last year after all of that snow. Today we are looking at somewhere between 6" and perhaps a bit more than a foot of the white stuff. Given the temperature and humidity level, I suspect and have heard that it will be relatively dry. So, shoveling should not be so excruciatingly painful and really can be put off until manna.
Which brings me back to storms. I find them sexy. It can be a tropical storm or a Nor'easter. I find these little gifts from above to be very sexy. I like to stay in and play or go out and get into a little trouble at the local tavern, revelling with others in the integrity of our Gore Tex and own sheer abilities to circumnavigate the neighborhoods wrought by high winds, driving rains and snow drifts. Today will be no different. I will entice Ally to venture out with me for some supplies. I think a case or two of beer maybe in order. I have a certain seasonal brew on my mind today. And then secure in our knowledge that we can survive for at least a day, stop by a pub for a quick pop of our favorite beverages.
Perhaps while we are out we will engage others like us, who brave the elements so we walk around in our sturdy stylish footwear and Christmas sweaters and make new friends. Ah, new friends in a snow storm. Such events in my life have led to life long friends and a couple of very sexy and memorable encounters.

I am feeling particularly festive this morning. I have a few telephone calls to make and then I am finishing some last minute shopping before Ally and I step out for some pre holiday cheer. Well what a surprise this is?!?!?!?

This morning is the first time I even tried to look at our blog in a month. I followed a link from a blog over at wordpress.com titled Veiled Ember and followed one of my comments back here. Well this is wonderful. As many of you know, Google shut this, our other two blogs and our e-mail account down sometime in the beginning of the Summer. I was hugely disappointed. I also suspected that a disgruntled and most certainly "anonymous" poster on Literotica, one who might not like Hotwife themed stories, retaliated with a negative comment to Google. Perhaps not, but everything ceased.

Sometime in late July, I was able to restore the e-mail account. There I found several concerned messages from many of you. Thank you.

Well, we are now back. I intend to ultimately replicate this blog over at wordpress and to continue on here as before.

I hope all has been well with all of you. And yes, we are most well, very happy, enjoying our Summer and still somewhat playing nicely with others. I think that we may have a lot to post in the coming weeks.

Oil Spill

This is one of those stories about an event that emerged fairly quickly and has grown as the days have gone by and the true scope of the event has emerged. Nearly two weeks ago on Tuesday April 20, a fire and explosion occurred on a semi submersible oil rig. There were prompt reports in the press of the tragic loss of eleven workers' lives. The next day, press reports were focusing on the loss of life and the source of the hydro carbons (oil) fueling the fire. By April 22 the rig had sunk to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico and the owners, the developers, and Coast Guard were trying to determine the extent of the flow. The following Monday, April 26, the owner's stated that the "The Deepwater Horizon is insured for total loss coverage and for wreck removal, to the extent removal can be carried out and is required. The total insured value of the rig is $560 million."

By now, most of us realize that there is a very large ruptured pipe spewing vast amounts of crude oil in to the gulf of Mexico some 41 miles south of the Louisiana cost in a section of the oil rich region known as the Mississippi Canyon Block 252. Following the failure of the sea floor located "blowout preventer", a device designed to prevent this very type of disaster, the oil flow began. Original estimates pegged the release at some 1000 barrels a day. Now, the estimated number is more like 5000 barrels a day and the reality is that we really don't know at what volume this crude oil is flowing into the Gulf. We also don't know when it will stop. At this point, BP Oil, the owner and developer of this oil field has taken full responsibility for the effects of the explosion of it's contractor's, Transocean, submersible drill rig, the Deepwater Horizon. But BP's ability to correct this problem has not been assured and their current proposal to stop this flow involves some untested installation of a device, much like a cover over the ruptured pipe. The device, known as a "oil recovery system chamber" is reportedly a 4 story high steel box of sorts that weighs in excess of 70 tons. Each of three of these will be lowered to the Gulf floor to contain the oil and allow for it to be pumped to the surface. We all hope that this plan succeeds, but as a reasonable individual looking from the outside in, it does not strike me as a plausible solution to containing a flow of liquid that is pumping with some rather large amount of pressure. And this device has never been used before.
So the reality is this is shaping up to be an unplanned oil release of a magnitude that perhaps has not been seen ever in this, the last or the previous centuries.
An economist by the name of David R. Kotok addressed this issue from an environmental, economic and financial perspective yesterday. Mr. Kotok is an interesting character. In addition to being the Chairman and Chief Investment Officer of Cumberland Advisors , a respected medium sized investment advisory firm, since 1973, he also is Director and Program Chairman of the Global Interdependence Center. His is biography (excerpt below) as listed on the Cumberland Advisor website.
"David R. Kotok co-founded Cumberland Advisors in 1973 and has been its Chief Investment Officer since inception. He holds a B.S. in Economics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, an M.S. in Organizational Dynamics from The School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania, and a Masters in Philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Kotok currently serves as a Director and Program Chairman of the Global Interdependence Center (GIC)(www.interdependence.org), whose mission is to encourage the expansion of global dialogue and free trade in order to improve cooperation and understanding among nation states, with the goal of reducing international conflicts and improving worldwide living standards. Mr. Kotok chairs its Central Banking Series and GIC’s Food and Water global stability project, a five continent dialogue held in Philadelphia, Paris, Zambia (Livingstone), Hanoi, Singapore, and Santiago, Chile.

Mr. Kotok is also a member of the National Business Economics Issues Council (NBEIC), the National Association for Business Economics (NABE), the Philadelphia Council for Business Economics (PCBE), and the Philadelphia Financial Economists Group (PFEG).

Mr. Kotok has served as a Commissioner of the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) and on the Treasury Transition Teams for New Jersey Governors Kean and Whitman. He has also served as a board member of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority and as Chairman of the New Jersey Casino Reinvestment Development Authority.

Mr. Kotok hosts an annual Maine fishing trip, where, it is rumored, most of the nation’s important financial and economic decisions are actually made."

Yesterday, CNN broadcast and published the following statements by Mr. Kotok during an interview with Joe Weisenthal where he explained a worst case scenario of this event, should the oil flow remain unchecked. (CNN Link)

"This spew stoppage takes longer to reach a full closure; the subsequent cleanup may take a decade. The Gulf becomes a damaged sea for a generation. The oil slick leaks beyond the western Florida coast, enters the Gulf stream and reaches the eastern coast of the United States and beyond. Use your imagination for the rest of the damage. Monetary cost is now measured in the many hundreds of billions of dollars."

"Usually, the first estimates in any crises are too low. That is true here. 1000 barrels a day is now 5000, and some estimates of spillage are trending higher. No one knows exactly. The containment and boom mechanism is subject to weather cooperation as we can see this weekend. Soon we are entering the hurricane season. The thoughts of a storm stirring up the Gulf, hampering any cleanup or remediation drilling effort and creating a huge 10,000 square mile black stew is frightening to every professional in the business. This will be a financial calamity for many firms, not just BP and its partners and service providers. Their liabilities are immense and must not be underestimated. The first estimate of $12.5 billion is only a starter."

"Thousands of small and independent businesses as well as larger public companies in tourism are hurt here. This is not just about the source of half the nation’s shrimp. That is already a casualty. It’s also about the bank loans for the $200,000 shrimp boat and the house the boat owner and/or his employees live in and the fact that this shock piles on a fragile financial system that is trying to recover from a three-year financial crisis. Case study, my fishing guide in the Everglades splits his time between Florida and Louisiana. His May bookings in LA have cancelled. His colleagues lost theirs and their lodge will be empty. They are busy trying to find work in the clean up. For him, his wife and eleven year old daughter, his $600 a day guide fees just went “poof”. When I asked him if he thought he had a legal claim on BP, he said he hadn’t thought about it yet but it gave him pause. As we suggested above, the $12.5 billion loss estimate is only a starter."

"Federal deficit spending will certainly rise by tens, and maybe hundreds, of billions as emergency appropriations are directed at larger and larger efforts to clean up this mess. At the same time, federal and state revenues tied to Gulf-region businesses will fall. My colleague John Mousseau will be discussing the impact on state and local government debt in a separate research commentary.
We expect that the Federal Reserve will extend the timeframe that we have come to know as the “extended period” in the making of its monetary policy. We do not expect the Fed to raise interest rates at all for the rest of this year, and maybe well into next year. We expect to see the deterioration of the economic statistics for the US to reveal the onset of this oil-slick crisis in May, and the negative impact will intensify during the summer months. A “double-dip” recession probably has been made more likely by this tragedy."

BP reported today that it is encouraged by it's efforts to develop the develop the device for installation over the three sources of the oil flow. For more information on this new release, click here (New York Times).

This concept vehicle was introduced at the Detroit International Auto Show in January and again this past week at the Beijing Auto Show. I understand that it closely represents the next generation of large Cadillacs and will replace the dated, though technologically packed if not advanced STS and the workhorse DTS. I think I just like it. That is hand cut and hand stitched leather with read wood. It is much larger than the CTS family and is sized between a BMW 5 and 7 series.

It was probably one evening last year, I would think in September that I stumbled upon the television talk show "Chelsea Lately" on the E! network. Occasionally since then, I have again found myself watching this program, fascinated by the host, Chelsea Handler, and the subject matters that she presents on her program. I can not write with any sort of authority about this program. I have only watched it a handful of times. But I can certainly say that I find her to be beyond fascinating. She is beautiful, fast witted, dry, direct, funny, sexy, appealing, on topic and did I mention sexy?!? She is able to speak about celebrities, politicians and her own sexual history as if they were all the sort of topics that would be suitable for conversation at the in laws house. They probably are not suitable for the in laws kitchen or most family members. But they are funny topics nonetheless.

Thank goodness spring has arrived. As much as I love autumn and winter, this past winter really did me in. Their was too much snow and it was too cold. And in the Northeast and MidAtlantic regions, we are being treated to an early spring treat this weekend. People are wearing their shorts, flip flops, t-shirts and short skirts. Tops are down on cars and smiles are all around. So, I am going back outside to enjoy more of this fun!

OK let's get right to the point. I really have no idea what this holiday is all about. I just read the required Wikipedia definition {why does anybody use that site?} and an article from today's Canada.com on this topic. I knew that it was a holiday that was celebrated in countries where they consider Queen Elizabeth 2 the monarch of their nation. So that pretty much includes places like the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and even still Hong Kong. I was surprised to learn that Germany and Greenland celebrate this day too. Originally, it was a day set aside to give to those less fortunate than you. And it was even celebrated in the original American colonies before the Revolution.

So today, it can be many things. In Canada, it is big shopping day somewhat like our own Black Friday. In the UK, it is a big sports day.

I like Holidays. And I think that on this particular day, we may step out and have a warm bowel of soup and a beer.

We made it through yesterday unscathed and relatively happy. We had quite the Merry Little Christmas. Unlike previous years I am not terribly blue about passing another Christmas. I am delighted that Christmas fell on a Friday and I don't have to go to the office today!

So, whatever you are doing today, I suggest you take a moment and think of our neighbors to the north and across the pond and beyond and try to celebrate this most foreign Holiday. We are going to. Cheers!

Life is short. And I really don't feel like hastening my demise by trying to move all of this snow. I did some. The cars are clear and the walkway is clear, but the sidewalks are covered by a LOT of snow. I used to have a blower. Why did I sell that with the old house anyway?

For many of you, a collective chuckle is probably being shared as you laugh at my struggles today. For this part of the USA, this is a rare occurrence, as we usually receive no more than six inches of snow ever.
I should be happy that we don't live in New England or Upstate NY where it is not entirely uncommon to have clear one's own roof after a blizzard.

But it is Sunday, and there are so many other things that I would rather be doing right now........like sitting in a cozy little bar meeting a new friend or two.

Or maybe just staying inside and spending the afternoon playing with my sexy wife. After all, the weather outside is frightful.

I heard on one of the news or weather casts that 50 million Americans are impacted by today's storm. They added that number represents approximately one in every six of us. Well I am one of those. And while I am absolutely delighted by this meteorological event, I am bothered by the real need to go outside and shovel. That I do dread. And no longer owning a snow blower, I find myself troubled by the thought of going outside and starting this chore. After all, the weather is frightful.

Perhaps I will just settle further into my winter slumber, have a glass of some funny looking dark beverage and gaze upon the fireplace. Yes, live is good in this part of the country, if only for today.

We remember those that scarificed their lives on this date sixty eight years ago.....

OK, I just can't stay quiet anymore on this. So this famous, articulate and insanely wealthy child protege turned professional golfer steps out and cheats on his beautiful wife. So what.

I feel badly for both Mr. and Mrs. Tiger, but it really isn't any of our business. No real crime has occurred and the biggest thing he is guilty of is causing both he and his family incredible embarrassment.

Unlike the vast majority of the self professed holier than thou saints out there criticizing him for his dalliances, he has the means and the opportunity to meet and be with other women. Enough of that opportunity will break down even the most faithful man or woman. Please just ask any traveling guy or gal, who has a decent job, is relatively attractive and can speak somewhat intelligently and they will tell you that it is hard not to.

Tiger Woods made a mistake. Perhaps he made several of these mistakes. But he didn't break the law and it is none of our business.

A challenging year it has been for so many of us. Yet, as we reflect back upon these past twelve months, most of us are still standing, generally healthy and able to look ahead with optimism for better times. Regardless if one has suffered badly or just merely was inconvenienced by these uncertain times, all of us have been impacted if only but a direct strike upon our confidence.
As we gather around our tables tomorrow, with family, distant relatives, friends, acquaintances or strangers, let us try to remember the many blessings that we all do have to be thankful for this year.

Well it finally here! That final hooray for summer. The day the malls are bustling (hopefully) with shoppers looking for Back To School specials, and savings on linens. So what is this all about. I checked with the US Department Of Labor and found a concise definition.

Labor Day: How it Came About; What it Means
Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union. The Central Labor Union held its second Labor Day holiday just a year later, on September 5, 1883.

While the Holiday was proposed and celebrated by unionized labor forces of the time, was adopted by President Cleveland as a Holiday celebrating the causes of labor and all workers, today it is celebrated by almost all Americans who enjoy an extra Holiday as the unofficial end of summer.

What summer Holiday weekend is complete, without a Jaws marathon on cable. This weekend, I believe it is running on Max, so there will be no Jaws playing on the Ally / RMG house televisions. But there is the next best thing.....

Beaches Closed After Great Whites Swim Near
Two Great White Sharks Tagged Off Cape Cod

In the nice Cape Cod town of Chatham, Great White Sharks have been spotted off of the beaches resulting in those east facing beaches being closed until next weekend. Even more remarkable, is that these Sharks have been tagged by marine biologists. Apparently this is some sort of first in the Great White Shark tagging world. This should prove absolutely fascinating as these critters are reported to swim tremendous distances for hinting and mating purposes. I can just imagine the excitement next summer when they pop up along Ocean City, MD, Virginia Beach, VA and Atlantic City, NJ.

For our friends in the States, this is a long weekend, with a Monday holiday. While honoring the hard working men and women in this country, Labor Day also marks the unofficial end of summer, punctuating the traditional Northern school summer calendar. It is a time for the last run up to the beach, or to the mountains or the last cook out with friends and family. While it often a fun weekend, it is embraced by man of us with just a touch of melancholy as we look forward to change of the seasons, the return to school, and the expectation that the Holiday season is just around the corner as is the cold winter weather.

I have been surprised since we started our blogs at how many visitors we receive from other countries, let alone other continents. Over at mysexyhotwife We seem to have found some regular followers in China, Hong Kong, certain Southeast Asian nations, the Sub Asian nations, and the Middle East. We have some occasional visitors from African nations. There are some friends from Australia and New Zealand too. And of course, there are our European friends who drop by on occasion. And there is a large core group here in this hemisphere and of course in the United States.
I wish to extend a big and sincere Thank You to all of you that visit, and also to those that offer comments on these posts and send e-mails with your own thoughts fantasies and even pictures. We do enjoy the feedback.
As we approach a rather large milestone in overall visits to sexyhotwife blog since last September 2008, it is interesting for me to note that we have really only had some 16,000 or so unique visits since we started this blog almost two years ago. Yet we apparently have a fairly large group of maybe 500 or so visitors that visit somewhat regularly resulting in such large overall numbers. It is absolutely fascinating that so many people are interested in reading about us, seeing the occasional pictures of us and the occasional friend, and reading and looking at images of some of our fantasies. One need not look any further than the side of this and my other blogs to see that I regularly visit many of you too.
So enjoy your weekend! We have no plans as of yet for this weekend. We may go up to the beach or the lake, or maybe we will just enjoy the weekend at home with each other. Or maybe we will do all of those things and see what kind of fun we just find........We are both still in the mood for some play.

We haven't made this in quite some time..But I love Carolina type pulled pork. It is something that is somewhat hit or miss around here. And while it does take a lot of time to make, it is not really that labor intensive. Last time it turned out really well. We roughly followed the following recipe and are doing so again. So now you know part of my day today.

Pulled Pork

If you grew up or traveled through the Carolina's, you know this dish is the very definition of BBQ. The traditionalists in this area will prepare this by cooking the "whole pig over whole logs." It is then served, piled high on the cheapest buns you can buy and topped off with a dollop of creamy cole slaw. Depending where in the region you travel, the sauces, always served on the side, can run the gamut from vinegar to tomato to mustard based.

So, how close can we come to duplicating this process for the average cook? Well, honestly, not very! BUT you can still make a very wonderful and tasty pulled pork in the oven. You will miss the subtle taste of smoke, from those whole logs, but that is part of the price you must pay to cook in the oven.

Pulled pork starts with a cut of pork commonly referred to as "pork butt" or "Boston butt". Unlike its name may seem to imply, this is NOT cut from the pig's ass!! It is the upper part of the entire shoulder. The shoulder is comprised of 2 cuts, the butt and the picnic. The picnic can be used for making pulled pork as well, but the butt is the more traditional cut.

The butts are most likely shipped to your butcher in pairs, packed in cryovac, and the weight of each butt is around 7-9 pounds, making the total package 14-18 pounds. Many times, by the time it gets to the display case, it has been further cut in half and will weigh between 4-5 pounds. I always like to request a full butt and ask if I can have one directly from the cryovac package. The weight will make a difference when cooking, so choose whatever size is most convenient. I tend to cook only the larger, bone-in, 7-9 pounders. Pulled pork freezes very well and can be re-heated with fantastic results. So, why not cook a bunch!

OK, you have the butt, now what? There is very little trimming needed. I have always cut only the outside layer of fat away. Cut any fat off and trim right to the meat. 2 reasons why you want do this - there is plenty of internal fat to keep the meat moist and the rub will more easily disperse throughout the meat.

Once you have trimmed, now you can prep. You will want to cover the entire butt with a rub. This rub is nothing more than a variety of spices blended together. Below are 2 that I have used with some success. Feel free to experiment with your own blend!

Kevi's South-of-the-Butt Rub:

4 tablespoons paprika

2 tablespoons salt

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

2 tablespoons brown sugar

2 tablespoons cumin

2 tablespoons chili powder

2 tablespoons pepper

1 tablespoon cayenne pepper

Mix together. Use liberally!

Memphis Style Pork Rub:

4 tablespoons paprika

2 tablespoons celery salt

2 tablespoons salt

2 tablespoons black pepper, coarsely ground

2 tablespoons cumin powder

2 tablespoons dark brown sugar

1 tablespoon turbinado sugar

1 tablespoon dried oregano

1 tablespoon cayenne pepper

2 teaspoons dried sage

2 bay leaves

1 teaspoon dry mustard

Crush the bay leaves and combine all ingredients.

Prior to applying the above rub, you will want to moisten the butt with either olive oil or some cheap, yellow mustard. The mustard adds a nice crisp "bark" to the outside layer of meat, yet does not have the overpowering taste of mustard. Slather either of these all over the butt and then apply your rub.

Now, you have a choice, you can let this sit overnight and allow the spices to "mingle" OR you can cook it immediately. If aging over night, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate. Allow the roast to come up to room temp prior to cooking the next day.

How you cook this cut is the most important part to getting a nice moist pulled pork. This cut of pork is loaded with internal fat. It is this fat that we want to "render" away. Scientifically speaking, the connective tissues and collagen will start to break down at temps of around 150-160 degrees F. This is exactly what we want to happen. The great secret to allowing this process to occur is to try and keep the meat temp between 150-170 degrees F. The longer you can hold those temps, the more this fat will render.

So, how do you achieve this? By cooking the meat at very low oven temps. We cook all of our pork butts at a temp of 225 degrees F. For you at home, I would set the oven at 250 degrees F and plan on taking 2 hours per pound. This will still assure you that the meat temps will stay in those ranges for a long time. In the end, we want the meat temp to reach and exceed 200 degrees F. This can be measured with a regular meat thermometer, just be sure you stick it into meat and not fat OR you can stick a fork into the butt and twist it; it should twist easily.

Cook the butt in a roasting pan with a rack to hold it above the fat that will render out. Half of this butt will cook away, so there will be lots of fat! You may have to empty your pan, so keep an eye on this.

Cook the butt UNCOVERED. The goal is to make that outside bark nice and crispy (without burning). The only way to do that is to expose the butt to the heat of the oven. If you were to cover the pan in any way, you will produce steam which will prevent the formation of a nice crispy bark.

Let the butt cook for about 3 hours before looking at it. At this point, you can open the oven and "mop" the meat. Mopping is applying a liquid to the surface of the meat...this will help to keep it moist and add some flavor. I use a very simple mop of 3 parts apple juice or cider and 3 parts cider vinegar and 1 part of olive oil. This can be applied with a brush, a mop, or a spray bottle. You can now mop every couple hours or as often as you would like.

I believe the 2 hour per pound estimate will be accurate 90% of the time. However, one of 2 things will invariably happen when cooking a butt...it will finish early or it will finish late. What to do? To speed up the cook, take the butt out of the oven, turn the oven up to 300 degrees F. Wrap as tightly as possible in heavy duty foil and place back in the oven. It will still take some time to finish so plan accordingly. If it finishes early, remove from oven and turn oven off. Wrap as tightly as possible in heavy duty foil and return to the (unheated) oven. You can hold like this for several hours.

Once the butt is finished you can now "pull" the meat. Let it cool to the point where you can handle it. Then use your hands to pull strands of the meat. A pair of forks will also prove helpful when pulling the meat. There may still be pockets of fat, so remove these as you start pulling. Place this pulled meat into whatever serving vessel you plan on using. Be sure to mix in the nice darkened bark of the outside meat with the inside meat. This allows the flavor of that rub and mop to be distributed within the meat.

We noticed some peculiar activity on our browser and our visitor list. As such, I have decided to "park" that blog for the moment until I can determine what was happening. I expect that this won't take very long to unravel.

I have also deleted the picture blog. Apparently one of the last posts may have violated the terms of our Blog agreement. Whether it did or did not, I elected to simply delete it rather than appeal to the Google Blog Supreme Court of Appeals. As I said when I created that picture blog, it was probably more of whim than something I really wanted to stick with. And so it has come to pass.

Ally and I had a nice Saturday. We went out for some drinks and had a nice dinner out. We came home and had a few drinks and listened to some music. Then we retired to the bedroom and I flipped around the channels and ended up watching Geraldo. Yes, that Geraldo. I rarely watch Fox and only do so for balance. But what he reported and everyone else has been since really just seemed almost too fantastic.

I found this little story on CNN.com and other news outlets this morning. It just made me think of another new, popular, young and untested President who once had to face a situation created by another nation thinking of using our neighbor to the south for a staging area for their own military objectives. I certainly hope this little potential minefield is quickly diffused before it becomes something more troubling. Hopefully, this nothing more than diplomatic chest pounding in hopes of averting similar placement of US assets overseas. CNN Russian strategic bombers could use Cuba airfields
MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) -- Russia expressed interest in using Cuban airfields during patrol missions of its strategic bombers, Russia's Interfax news agency reported
"There are four or five airfields in Cuba with 4,000-meter-long runways, which absolutely suit us," Maj. Gen. Anatoly Zhikharev told Interfax.
Zhikharev, who is the chief of staff of the Russian Air Force's long-range aviation, said, "If the two chiefs of state display such a political will, we are ready to fly there."
Zhikharev also told Interfax that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has offered a military airfield on La Orchila island as a temporary base for Russian strategic bombers.
"If a relevant political decision is made, this is possible," he said, according to Interfax. Zhikharev said he visited La Orchila in 2008 and can confirm that with minor reconstruction, the airfield owned by a local naval base can accept fully-loaded Russian strategic bombers.

Earlier this week, the National Geographic channel rolled out their special about Air Force One titled On Board Air Force One. The outgoing President Bush 43 and the incoming President Obama granted the camera crews from Nat Geo unprecedented access to the Air Force One fleet and to a couple of very high profile missions. As a viewer, we actually get to witness the new President stepping aboard for the first time last week. This is a great documentary! Honestly, I do not have any sort of shoe fetish. We were watching the new episode of "Lost" last evening and I realized that the actress who plays Penny on the show, Sonya Walger, had been on that excellent, steamy yet very controversial HBO series "Tell Me You Love Me". We both loved that show. Given the volume of quality series being generated by the cable networks today, I almost forgot about that one. If you aren't familiar with the series, it was based on the loves of a number of couples and their therapist. It portrayed some very graphic sexual scenes and had some wonderful story lines. It was most controversial because of the appearance of real sexual acts being portrayed by the characters. Later, it was announced that these were simulated. I'm not so sure about that. Nonetheless, I was a fan of the series. As for Sonya Walger, I became enamoured with her crazy beautiful full smile.

United States Of Tara

Last evening after a very long yet fun Friday evening, my best friend and I spent a lazy evening having drinks and watching TV. Towards the end of the evening she put the premiere episode of United States of Tara on demand. It is a new cable series, from Dream Works and created / produced (?) by Steven Spielberg that actually premieres this evening (1/18/09) but has been available On Demand since at least yesterday and believe since 1/5/09. The story line of this well promoted series revolves around a the ongoing lives of an middle class couple with two kids living in suburbia. The wife suffers from a type of multi personality disorder known as Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). These alter personalities manifest themselves whenever the mother, Tara, suffers some stressful moment in her life. We actually watched the first two episodes and I do not know just how many "alters" are present, but there are a few compelling characters and the husband and the two children both know them all by name. The show looks like it may be a successful cable series just as Californication, Mad Men, Big Love and even to a degree, the Sopranos and Sex and the City have been.

However, there is something mildly troubling about this show for me. The daughter Kate, is played brilliantly by Brie Larson an accomplished nineteen year old actress / singer who has been successful in her young career in both movies and music. She plays a convincing fifteen year old, strong willed, sexually promiscuous girl with an apparent voracious appetite for sex and is not embarrassed to say so to her mother, the "alters" and her father. The scenes where she describes her desires are somewhat sizzling, but are disturbingly unnerving in that that these words are being said by a fifteen year character. To paraphrase as best as I remember, she says "I like to fuck, I like to suck and I am not backdoor un-friendly." Watching her undress, and in a later scene have her mother help her remove her boots from her long and very spread legs showing her tight panties, I could not help but think of the men who we see occasionally on Dateline. Comparing these scenes to a later scene in the premiere episode where Kate performs in a school dance recital only reinforces my initial reaction to this character. This morning I asked Ally what she thought in this regard and she too noted the disturbingly sexual nature of this character.

I was troubled by my own reaction to this most taboo character. I was relieved to learn today that the actress is nineteen, but the character is fifteen. And in my upbringing, fifteen has been off limits since I was sixteen. So having one fifteen year old be so sexually open in a series is troubling to me, even as open and tolerant as I may be. And if her words and body movements can stir this illicit this mild reaction, I can only imagine what reaction this character will create for the mainstream pedophile. Most troubling. But then, good shows and other forms of entertainment often are.

The father, Max is well played by John Corbett (I think from My Big Fat Greek Wedding) and Tara is played by Toni Collette. She is a most believable in her performance of the "alters" and I suspect will lead this cast to a memorable season. I know Ally and I will be watching. Although I may need to close my eyes the next time this nineteen year old hottie peels off her jeans.

It's that time of the year again!!!!!

I just love this picture. It is of Bob and Betty and was taken in Coronado, CA on New Year's Eve 1959. I found it at The Square America Snapshot Archive. I don't know where this person finds these pictures, but they are Grrrreat!

This one I found at many sites and it was noted at several as New Years Eve 1907. I'm doubtful of the year for a number of reasons. I plan to learn more about this picture, but I do really like it.

Ever since I was a little guy, I have absolutely adored this time of year. There is nothing really special about that. Many people feel the same way that I do. Early on during my career, I began to plan and schedule vacation time around this time. Soon, it always seemed to become impacted by work and family events. Try as I may, I tried to schedule vacation before or during the Holidays. And every year, something would happen that would prevent me from truly just kicking back and enjoying time with my family. This year is no different. Both my best friend and I are busy with work obligations and have only been able to schedule a few days off. And already, just as I did when I was a little guy, I am beginning to dread next week. Ah yes, next week when traffic returns to normal and everyone is back in high gear as if we hadn't just spent the previous two weeks celebrating, sleeping in, maxing credit cards, and wishing for snow. Some of you did get snow and are in fact getting it again today. I'm not.
These past two years have been both challenging and rewarding. I suspect this coming year will be no different but I am optimistic that many good things will present themselves this year for us. And I hope they do for all of you too!

Holidays

We are not ready for Christmas. Most years, we find ourselves late preparing for the Holidays and after an initial burst of early Holiday shopping, then racing around at the last minute to take care of Uncle Louie and all those cousins and nephews and nieces. Maybe it is the "credit crisis" or maybe its just an off year for us. But where we often have two or three trees and lots of outside lights, we have nothing set up today. Nor have we purchased even one present.

Neither of us is turning into the Grinch or purposely being Scrooge like. But something isn't clicking this year. We both have been busy with work. Perhaps busy is an understatement. And while we aren't going under by any means, things are a little tighter than in past years. We will set up a tree this year, and I will probably hang a wreath later today on the front door. But I don't see a lot of mall or online purchases this year. I don't think either of us is feeling terribly festive with regard to giving gifts to family that really isn't all that nice the rest of the year. And perhaps that is the real root of this "funk" that we are in.

I know that come next week, we will be celebrating the Holidays. We will visit family. We will purchase and consume large amounts of champagne and other types of alcohol while listening to our incredibly and unjustifiably large collection of Christmas music. We will listen to Bing, Nat, Frank and Dino and to which we will listen to Bruce, Jimmy and all sorts of new, recently new and really esoteric Christmas music from the Cajun and Surf genres. I especially am fond of radio recordings of Christmas shows from the 1940s. And of course there is the Lounge genre of the late 1950s and early 1960s. On some level, I feel at one with passed Grandparents and other dead relatives. Yes, dead relatives. That is cold, but it is what it is. And I do feel connected with them at this time of year. From hanging one or two of their ornaments from many of the passed on one of the trees to thinking about and toasting their memories. And for me, Christmas is about memories, both reliving and enjoying them and making new ones.

I'm not exactly who she is or why she is famous. But then, I often don't follow such things. I may be Extra Extra challenged. I don't know half of the people they profile on that and similar shows are. I think she is a VS model and may have done some other modeling and had some theatrical roles. Nonetheless, she is very pretty and when I was looking for some new Christmas items I stumbled upon her. So here is Alessandra Ambrosio.

I may just have found a new favorite artist. Her name is Connie Chadwell and I believe that she lives in the greater DC area. Her work has struck a nerve with me. The subject matter of her paintings seem to embrace all that is wonderful and good in my marriage. And as many of you may know, I am madly in love with my sexy little wife. She is my best friend, my favorite date, my best time and my love. Here are a couple of samples and a link if you want to learn more......

A Serious Error and Bad Choice of Judgement

I made a mistake. And I offended someone in the blog world that I admire immensely.
In my rush to share with the followers of this blog those blogs that I found to be well written and fun to visit, I disregarded proper blog etiquette, good taste and proper manners.
I gave a call out to a blog and posted a picture from that blog, with a link, without asking permission.
I know better. I most likely would have been offended and angered by a similar action by another blogger.
More troubling for me, is that this individual, who has a wonderfully constructed blog with engaging and well written posts that I find relevant to my own life as a parent and husband, has now been offended by my actions.
I am shamed by my actions and I am truly sorry for my lack of judgement and very poor behavior.

I love Thanksgiving! It really is my favorite holiday. It starts with the big "go out Wednesday Night" around town. Friends usually visit from out of town. In the morning we awake, drink some mimosas, listen to Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant, read the big paper, watch the parade, make dinner if we are hosting, bitch and moan about why we aren't hosting if we are not and then have a big meal and a lot of fun. And we can officially start listening to all that wonderful Christmas music.

Guess what? It's almost here!!!!!!!!
